The following steps connect Visual Studio on a developer machine to a self-hosted Team Foundation Server that's accessible through the local network or through VPN.

  1. In Visual Studio, select Open from Source Control… from the Start Page options, or select the Team > Connect to Team Foundation Server menu command.

  2. In the Team Explorer pane, click Select Team Projects…:

  3. Click the Servers… button in the dialog that appears:

  4. Click the Add… button in the next dialog, then enter the name or URL of the Team Foundation Server and the connection details, then click OK (note that this dialog is also where you can specify connections to Visual Studio Team Services accounts):

  5. Enter your credentials for the server when prompted (we suggest also checking Remember my credentials if your IT policy allows it), then click Close to finish adding the server.

  6. Select the newly added server from the Select a Team Foundation Server dropdown to populate the list of Team Project Collections and Team Projects:

  7. Select the desired collection, place a check by any of the projects to be worked on. then click Connect to finalize the process.

Xamarin Workbook

If it's not already installed, install the Xamarin Workbooks app first. The workbook file should download automatically, but if it doesn't, just click to start the workbook download manually.
